Running Routes – Manchester

Manchester is the third most visited city in the UK, having been at the forefront of British architecture, musical exports and sporting prowess has made Manchester a vibrant city to explore. With three separate Holiday Inn hotels spread throughout the city, the guests have an opportunity to experience all the different areas Manchester has to offer.

Manchester’s infamous MediaCityUK houses the first Holiday Inn offering two running routes. The shorter route (4.5km) sees runners do a lap around the MediaCityUK and Salford Quays renowned as the 21st century cultural hub and the largest media hub in Europe. During this run you’ll experience why everyone falls in love with Manchester. The heavily urbanised surrounding with large media offices and eye-catching architecture gives of a futuristic impression whilst running.

The longer route (9.7km) once again lets you explores the high energy MediaCityUK and the Salford Quays, although the additional distance enables runners’ to also visit the Lowry and venture to the west side of the canal crossing two very artistic bridges. Home to the world’s richest football club Manchester United, this route is a must-do for any football fanatic as it takes you right past one of England’s most historic and iconic football grounds.

Holiday Inn Manchester – West, based on Liverpool Street, offers two routes, one (6.1km) that heads into Spinningfields and towards the Manchester cathedral and the other (5.6km) head back towards the Quays and do a lap towards University of Salford.

The 6.1km route heads into the heart of Manchester, home to most of Manchester’s historical buildings including The Royal Exchange Theatre, the Manchester Cathedral and the National Football Museums all of which are passed on this running route. This route gives visitors a real sense of the historical journey Manchester has been through and clearly portrays the changing cultural dynamics over the last century.

The 5.6km route is for visitors who are wishing to find some rest bite from the energetic central Manchester. This takes you through the more residential part of the Manchester and back onto the edge of the MediaCityUK before looping around towards the Oasis Academy (the band is one of Manchester most famous exports), before reaching the slightly more industrial area in Manchester bordering the River Irwell that you follow around and there turning back to the Holiday Inn for a welcomed shower!

The last route for Manchester is for Holiday Inn – Central Park (4.9km), this routes takes you around the well-known Philips Park Cemetery, the burial place of many war heroes from The Battle of Rorkes Drift in South Africa, and very close to the Etihad stadium where football club, Manchester City play. This is another must-see you football fans, the 55,000 capacity stadium is surrounded by state-of-the-art facilities.
